I received a very durable Mocobabies placemat to use at meal times with my 20 month old daughter. The concepts of the pictures are clear and playful, so that she can understand the situation displayed and the hand gestures pictured. Her eyes really light up as my 4 year old mimics the gestures as well as verbally communicates the gesture. It has become a game between the two of them and both of them are quickly picking up sign language without even realizing they are learning. I have only been practicing with my daughter for a couple of weeks, but I can definitely see how using signals with hands coupled with verbal communication can bridge the gap of communication for proverbal children and their parents.
